The Other Day…V5, #25, Oh Happy Day!!

I’ve been writing “downer” stuff lately, so I decided on The Other Day… I wanted to see if I could write something positive and uplifting.  Well, for starters, the weather is shifting to the warmer side. At least now and then, anyway.  That’s a good thing, right?  Of course, that means the grass will start growing, and the sap will be flowing in the trees and weeds, and I’ll have to start weed eating and working outside, which leaves me less time to write.  Darn, that really isn’t all that positive, is it?

My wife just told me that we are in the last week of February, and Tuesday will be March 1st. Wham, Bam, Thank you, Ma’am, it’s green time.  No more greasy gray days; now we can look forward to bright blues and grassy greens.  That’s a good thing, too.  Don’t start being a Debbie Downer about all the bad things that will come with Spring, like thunderstorms, floods, allergies, lawn mowing, and all that.  That’s my job, and I’m choosing not to do that for the essay.

Another good thing about Spring is that baseball will be starting up.  I don’t really like baseball much myself, but I know a lot of other people do. Seems like boys (and yes, girls) start the game as soon as they can hold a bat in their hands. It begins with T-ball and pony league and goes to college ball and the Major Leagues.  So, if you are a fan of the game, then Spring training is right around the corner.  Play Ball!!

Besides that, what’s not to like about March?  It’s a great month for getting back into the swing of things.  I will be walking more with the ole ball and chain.  No, I don’t mean my wife. She still needs another hip surgery.  Nope, I’m talking about my dog, Varian.  He’s gotten too chubby for his own good and needs to walk off a few pounds.  Don’t tell anyone, but so do I. The holidays and winter hibernation catches up with us at some point, am I right?

Another thing, have you noticed the daylight is staying longer now?  That’s right, and it stays light until almost 6:30.  Once Daylights Saving Time kicks in a couple of weeks from now, it will be light until about 8:00 or so.  That’s always nice. More time to see and get things done without worrying about the darkness setting in.  Of course, the other side to that roller coaster is, Daylight Saving Time always throws off my biological internal clock. I get so messed up that I’m not normal again until November, and by that time, the clocks have changed again. Hey,  I know you probably don’t believe me, but that’s true.

Well, I wanted this to be uplifting, but it seems all I did was find fault with all the things that will be coming our way in March.  Oh well.  At least I got to talk to you all today. I do like talking with you, no matter what the topic of the day is.

Ending on a positive note, at least the Covid numbers are coming down. That means mask mandates are coming down all over the place.  I’m not sure yet if that is a good thing for WV or not, but I’m not going to address that right now. Like everyone else, I’m tired of talking about, hearing about, and dealing with the pandemic. So, just let me say, until next time, take care of yourself, stay safe, and keep wearing a mask until you don’t have to anymore. It sure couldn’t hurt anything.   MUH!!
