My Story

About Me

I am a retired educator with a degree in Education from Fairmont State University (WV), and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from West Virginia University. I am a Navy veteran, having served in Submarines, Diesel Class. I have been married to my wife for 45 years, and we were blessed with two children, a son, and a daughter. I also have two wonderful grandchildren.

I tend to be an emotional writer, writing from the heart. I began writing when I was in my mid-twenties. However, I didn’t start writing for publication until I was in my early forties. Currently, I have self-published five books through Amazon. I often think of myself as an inspirational writer since I have had some success in the past in that category, but I am currently focusing on Young Adult fiction. I have a Blog called “Crosby’s Corner,” and I write short essays on various topics on that site, under the heading of “The Other Day.” A sampling of those essays can be seen on my Blog or my Facebook Author’s Page. I am also using the pseudonym of David James to publish the next series of books I am authoring.

Kassy has the ability to brighten up a room when she enters it. Kassy likes Disney stuff. She is a recent graduate of the class of 2018. This young woman works in one of those Kitchen Stores at our local mall. She is going to attend Fairmont University to major in Biology. Kassy is vibrant, friendly and has an uplifting personality. From what I hear Kassy along with her friends throw an amazing “Pasta Party” around the holidays!

Quiet but determined. Jaye is more reserved, quiet but not shy. Like Kassy has an amazing mind. She is a 2018 high school graduate, and Jaye has a wonderful and supportive family. I was so happy to see Jaye because if I had a favorite student this past year Jaye (and Kassy) would have been in the top ten. Jaye will also be attending Fairmont University in the fall to major in Nursing. From what I hear Jaye along with her friends throw an amazing “Pasta Party” around the holidays!

When I first met Joan, it was at my mother’s funeral. I was ten years old and thought my world had just broken apart. Since that time she has married Danny, gave birth to three delightful children, and they have grandchildren and an upcoming great-grandchild. Oh, did I forget to mention they just celebrated their 51 wedding anniversary! Congratulations to you both.

I always thought that Danny and I had a connection, even though he was nine years my senior. He was a worker bee and kept constantly busy. He played softball in several different leagues over the years. Dan would often take me to the games, where he played first base. I thought he was pretty good. I recently found out he had been working for over 52 years. Wow! He said to me (the other day) that he has always thought of me, not as a cousin, but a brother. Again, Wow!

I served as her teacher in grades 7 through 12, and the one thing I remember most about her was how she always wore a smile on her face. I have seen her several times in the years since she graduated high school. She has remained the same sweet, beautiful soul she always was. She was always a shining light in the darkness that never seemed to dim, no matter what came her way. She has two children and just remarried. This young lady deserves happiness and I believe she has found it.

Rae was the first really good basketball player I had when I was coaching the girls’ team, back in the day. It was Rae who led the team that earned us our first two wins in my twenty-two-year coaching career. But, her gift to me, all those years ago, wasn’t the winning scores, it was that I had the opportunity to be her coach and get to know her for the wonderful athlete, person, and student she was. She introduced me to her husband and her two children. Their daughter had Auburn hair just like my daughter, so I thought she was special right away. Plus, she’s a basketball player. Say What??!!?? Her husband and son were both polite and shook my hand. I swear to you, it was a “Hall- Mark” moment. Ray continues to work in the county school system in food services.

Joey graduated in 1986 (I believe), and when I knew him, he didn’t always say too much. He didn’t seek out the limelight either, as I recall, but, he has undoubtedly done some fantastic things that would make the average person envious. First of all, Joey is an excellent drummer. In fact, I’d say he’s “out of this world.” He put himself out there as a studio drummer several years ago, and he went on to build an incredible career for himself. When I knew him all those years ago, I knew that he drummed, but I didn’t realize how extraordinary he truly was. He shied away from all the glamour and glitz. In my opinion, (mainly because I was a big fan of Michael Jackson) his best gig was when he was allowed to be the lead drummer on Michael Jackson’s tour and played at the NY Giants Stadium. How many of us can say we played New York Giants Stadium? However, when I saw him several years later, he was the same kind and generous young man that I remembered from high school. He came back home and was a news director on our local television station for a while. He did a Christmas commercial for the station that I really enjoyed. He eventually left the area when he earned an invite to work at Disney World as a director. He now works for Blue Man Group at Universal Studios. He likes what he does, and he deserves all the success that comes his way. He is a marvelous man, and I relish calling him my friend.

Nick is an enigma. While attending school, he was quiet, respectful, polite, and courteous. On the basketball court, Nick was an outstanding point guard who “had serious game!” He was fearless, followed direction, and did what was best for the team. In this video Snyd (stage name) has teamed up with singer Dami D (Damion Watson), who has a beautiful voice. Together, these young men have created an outstanding video. As I sat watching these two people perform, I swelled with pride. Once I saw him lower his sunglasses and give that Gazillion Dollar Smile, I said, “Now there’s the Snyd I remember!” Currently, he’s a performer, living locally and working for a nearby grocery store.

Zack still has his Harley-Davisson motorcycle that he doesn’t share. He works for a service that transports injured patients to a university hospital that cannot fly. He is still one of the most polite and respectable men I know, as are all my students. Zack was the starting center on the school’s football team. If you’re aware of the phrase size doesn’t matter, it is so true when you talk about Zack’s football career and the amazing job he did for his school for four years. He truly is larger than life. Today, he transports people to the university hospital who are unable to fly. This is a situation where he is the right person for the right job!
